Experimentation – CULTIVATING FIBRE PLANTS

Karin Altmann and Tristan Toé

Together with organic farmer Tristan Toé, we started to cultivate various fibre plants such as flax, hemp, ramie, nettles and natural coloured cotton for experimental purposes at Wachtberg near Gars am Kamp (Waldviertel).

It is still one and a half months until the ice saints, with which we associate the date of the last frost. The period from May 11 to May 15 is believed to bring a brief spell of colder weather, including the last nightly frosts of the spring. Flax is sown directly, while cotton and ramie are grown in the greenhouse.
